Current Events Blog- JRN105

 For this post, were going a little off topic from a day in the life of a college broadcaster. Instead, we'll be checking out a current event going on this week. Sticking with the topic of sports, lets check out the ever so amazing Detroit Lions(2-1) taking on the Seahawks(3-0) this Monday. Both teams are starting the season very hot, even with the Lions taking a loss to the Buccaneers on their second game. However, it seems that the Lions, every year, have a couple teams that for some reason always have their number. The Seahawks are 100% one of those teams. After a tough loss last season to Seattle, the Lions are looking to bounce back this year and take home a 3-1 record and send the Seahawks home with their first loss of their year. According to multiple credible news outlets, this game is projected a very close score, with the Lions favored, but not by much. This is a must win in my opinion for Detroit. Going 2-2 to start the season in a year that's projected to be a better season than the 2023-2024 campaign would be a tough look for them and their credibility as a program. Previously making it to the NFC championship last year, the Lions have big shoes to fill. With Detroit barely winning in a tight game between both the Rams and Cardinals, the Seahawks will mark a turning point in the season either for the better or for the worse, and it all goes down at home(Ford Field) on Monday, 8:15pm.

 Prepping For The National Runners-Up: Grand Vally State University  As CMU gets ready to take on one of the most ready teams in ACHA college hockey, the broadcasters and our teams do the very same. I have already spent countless hours prepping with rosters, writing down stats, and game film/strategies. But the other part of prep comes in a very different form, one that not many people realize. As Vice-President of an independent broadcasting group, CCHN is required to contact/meet with the owners of every team and rink we play against and at. This is because we must obtain the broadcasting rights to film and broadcast at the arena. Both the team and rink must agree to this, and then and only then can we begin double checking our equipment for functionality and readiness. Once all this is done, then we can finally get ready for the trip to the opposing rink, where we get there sometimes up to five hours in advance to set up all our equipment. Hurricane Helene

Another off-topic week, but I felt this needed to be discussed immediately. Hurricane Helene has torn through southern America, destroying everything in its wake. Its powerful blasts of 130 mph winds and record flooding never previously seen have left communities in ruin. Submerged homes, displaced families, and washed-out resources have destroyed everything in a single moment. The calls for emergency services are so high, which also means the need for immediate assistance is overwhelming. Now is the time for us to come together and help the victims of this disaster.
